///In Part II the meat of the collection begins with the "Sensation" phase and our first experiment-poem coupling. This is the first experiment I designed, and I performed it twice, resulting in the two poems below. The italicized and parenthetical "experiential splices" that accompany the experiment relate to the first poem. I did not include splices for the second poem. As stated in Part I, the splices "add another element to the experiment/poem dialectic: while we read the experiments, we are brought into a mind-space, a quasi-narrative of memory-fragments; while we read the poems, they are recast not only by the instructions, but by these remembered shards or clips." In the splices for the first poem, "we get a lyrical flow unhinged from its flurry of images and movements. Yet, when we recall the memory-fragments, one can construct a partial narrative: themes of diaspora, of expulsion, migration, and transcontinental flight inundate throughout, as well as themes of a traumatic past and a frightening future."
These experiments are, ideally, meant to be performed: feel encouraged to perform them yourself. If you wish, you can send your results to my email (k-valis@outlook.com), or leave them in the comments below. Soon I will be setting up a "forum" page on the site so yous can post your poems on a discussion board.
I hope you enjoy.\\\

SENSATION
The felt is the real. Sensations are trip wires, signals to a faltering neural mainframe. Sensation is the immanent collision of haecceities, noumenal points entering into a wavelength by which they are decomposed or amplified. Sensations code, they snap meaning onto the category which the mainframe applies to the perceived object, and carry that coding onto the next object. Code blips reduce perfume to a tragedy, shoelaces to a choking—sensation ushers in a prior world, hacks a (phe)noumenal experience and hyperstitions it through spacetime to overlay instantaneous perception. Sensation generates the somatic simulacra.

SONIC Experiment: Soundbeam (skandhas)
Day 1: Choose a song that brings you somewhere, that conjures a former you. Take ten deep breaths and inhale coffee beans, cigarette smoke, or incense. Turn on the song in headphones. Write parataxically throughout. Do not listen to the song again today.
(Humming torpedoed down the Negev, sun splits; a low brooding, an angry, petulant hope; glimpses of freedom locked down in shopping malls by bomb threats)
Day 2: Sit next to an open window. Take ten deep breaths and listen to the noise outside. Treat it as an intended composition. Trace each sound, follow it and notice whether it brings you anywhere else, links your associations to a previous or other world. Write 10 words in the margins (this is not part of your ‘list.’)
Turn on the song, loud enough to be heard by others. Cut one third of the words from your list. Do not listen to the song again today.
(My bus driver keeps a glock; I headbang skullrattles of genocide apologia; I am never convinced that I am in a different scrubland; I am never convinced that I am anywhere; authenticity deep fries in glommed sanitizer)
Day 3: Take ten deep breaths. Imagine the you that is conjured, attempt to embody that lifeworld. Notice who you were, what you desired, who you loved, what you hated. Write 5 words in the margins (this is not part of your ‘list.’)
Turn on the song. Cut one third of the words from your list. Do not listen to the song again today.
(I am ashamed of my boredom at a military funeral, but it is hot and the air is dry; I am ashamed for loving the heathen Dome, its necessary destruction the last great birth pang of the messiah; I am ashamed of my sympathy for children shrieking in gas masks; I am ashamed of being afraid to shoot; I am ashamed of being in love)
Day 4: Write three words that you associate with each word on your list. These associations should be somatic, alinear, and adefinitional. Circle one word from each set. This is your final list. Don’t listen to the song at all today.
(Floating in Al-Bahr al-Mayyit is like floating anywhere—it hurts and ends; loving in Eilat is stupid, like anywhere, but still I pine for American corn; despairing in Haifa isn’t like despairing diasporic—it is total, severing, globular, complete; swimming in Galilee at a resort playing Ke$ha is like dying pleasantly in a snowglobe beneath time)
Day 5: Turn on the song in headphones and write the first two letters of each word from your list as the first two letters of each line. Write the poem by filling in the lines. Let your associations float—don’t worry about matching the lyrical content of the song.
(The beauty of toddlers babbling in a language familiar and unknown; the beauty of loving, completely, a Ukranian boy of about your height; the beauty of a bitter ache for an unfenced tundra; the cold beauty of isolation in spectation; the sublime beauty of experience severed wholly from the world)
Day 6: Turn on the song on speakers and revise using your lists and your marginal words. (Consider including the marginal words as a refrain or gloss.) Finish the poem.

SONIC EXPERIMENT #1 Heatwhip (percussion) after Okkervil River
Hecate breathes me east, seething into chloroplasmic diaspora.
remember rocketing vectored over seas? waveshots churning over watered horizon?
— an origamic sun layered in loss—
the sloppy dead cough orange in tall water, their desires joltcut to foam.
blackwinged automata look so chemical: Holding myself with bleach is toxicolic flagellation.
—a clocked virus shades airborne in the pink humrise—
Apollo dons sunego in gaslit symmetries as sparrows dirge cortical and hustle fauxmarrow beneath roasted half-light.
I want to traipse grottolike, abort my feedback chaparral and fall cherries into fleshed earth.
joy is a spinal tapped scission fracked nostalgic before a moment. Time-eaters foreclose on your future, belief borne succulent to hip bones: two horses, buried in the red snow.
